B vs E

What is the difference between B and E? I answered E because it seemed to me that the general principle of "being happy" supports the long-term stability of its goals. I understand why the first sentence is the conclusion but still a bit confused between the terminology of "helps support the conclusion" found in answer B vs. "illustrate the general principle" in answer E. Thanks for the help

I also chose E for this question instead of B. Can you please help clarify why E would be incorrect?

@mehran can you please explain the difference

I didn't found E was an attempting choice until I read these people's comments.

There have been many people confused by the answer choice E. Can someone please explain the falsehood of E please?

can anyone please explain the answer choice E here, please

Answer choice E suggests that it's an illustration, rather than a premise. An illustration would be an example, which this is not. Instead, it just provides further support for the conclusion. Does that help?

That helps a lot. Thank you very much

Why not D vs. B?

E is wrong, I think, because a "presupposition" is an "unstated premise/assumption." So, I believe that those of you who picked E were lured by the phrase "general principle." However, the general principle that lured you is NOT presupposed; it is the first sentence: "the stable functioning of a society depends upon the relatively long-term stability of the goals of its citizens." So, it is explicitly stated; not implied which what a presupposed assumption/premise be.

Please correct my reasoning above if you deem it wrong. I'm trying to eliminate the wrong answers for the correct reasons.
