Review Answer C Please.

I applied the "No" Statement rule to answer choice C. Could you explain one more time why it is not correct. I am a bit confused. I came up with the following: not S==>PM not PM==>S Thanks.

Hi there, thanks for your post.

Answer choice (C) says "If the press is not to be subsidized, it cannot be a profit-making institution."

If not subsidized, not profit-making.

not S - > not PM

CP: PM - > S

You missed the "not" on the necessary side ("cannot be profit making" = "not PM").

Hope this helps! Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

Thanks.

I diagrammed the first part of this question when it was unnecessary to do so. Any tips on recognizing background information vs conditional? I understand the indicator words.

@Emanuel-Centeno, indicator words help, but I would suggest reading the whole question before digging into diagramming it. There's not tricks or specific words that will give away whether a sentence is background info or part of the logical structure of the argument, so you really have to read the whole thing to understand where the argument is going to know whether a sentence fits within that argument or not.

Sorry that's kind of a non-answer, but ultimately, you'll save a lot of frustration if you understand the overall arc of the question before trying to diagram each sentence in it.
