Hi there, thank you for your post. This is a Method of Reasoning question.

The stimulus presents an argument. The conclusion is "it is likely that common wisdom has mistaken an effect for a cause." In plain English, this conclusion is that stress is the cause of acne, not chocolate, and that in fact chocolate itself is an effect of stress (i.e., people eat more chocolate when they are stressed). Put differently, stress causes people to eat more chocolate, and stress causes acne.

Answer choice (B) explains the method of reasoning employed. The argument "provides additional evidence" ("recent scientific studies indicate that hormonal changes associated with stress can cause acne") that points to an alternative interpretation of the evidence (a correlation between chocolate and acne) offered in support of the position being challenged (that chocolate causes acne).

Hope this helps! Please let us know if you have any additional questions.
