Hi there, thank you for your question. This is a Flawed Method of Reasoning question. Smith concludes that meat in the diet is healthy, based solely on the premise that most doctors eat meat, and doctors know a lot about health.

The flaw in this argument is described in answer choice (E): Smith takes for granted that experts (here, doctors, who are health experts) always act in a way that is consistent with their best interests. But of course that is not true, right? Think of all the doctors who smoke! Likewise, there may be doctors out there who eat meat even though they know that meat might not be healthy.

Hope this helps. Please let us know if you have any additional questions!

I correctly answered the question with E, but I was torn between answers D and E. I thought D could be correct because a doctor is an authority on health and not all doctors give the same advice about meat in the diet. Could you please explain why this isn't the correct way of thinking about this question?

@Anna, the problem with (D) is that the question doesn't talk about what doctors advise but only what doctors do. Seems insignificant, but those are the type of details that the LSAT throws at you to see if you're paying attention.

Does that help?

as below, again, it would be helpful to know why others are also not the answer- unsure why only answer is explained in most of these questions when it is said eliminating answer choices is most important. but yet little explanations on other incorrect answer choices.
