Question #5

The correct answer is C, but this answer is mentioned in the first paragraph as being a limitation of day care. Any clarification on why C is correct?

Hi there. The correct answer on question #5 is not (C), but rather (D). In light of this, please let us know if you still have questions.

I'm sorry, I meant why is D the correct answer?

Mehran February 9, 2018

Thanks for clarifying. The question says there is textual support for the proposition that day care is at best a limited solution to the pressures associated with child rearing for all of the following reasons EXCEPT . . . which means that the one correct answer is the one for which textual support is missing.

Answer choice (A) is supported by Lines 10-12 ("need more than tending . . .").

Answer choice (B) is supported by Line 7 ("cannot always find or afford")

Answer choice (C) is also supported by Line 7 ("cannot always find . . .")

Answer choice (E) is supported by Lines 9-10 ("must still cope with emergencies, such as illnesses . . .")

There is no textual support for answer choice (D); the passage is about conflicts between child care & work, and vacations are not mentioned in the first paragraph at all.

Hope this helps! Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

I did not choose D because in the first paragraph it states, "children in primary school need care after school and during school vacations." Is that because that is addressing the issue with primary school children and not day-care?

Yes, the line about school vacations is referring specifically to primary school. The discussion of daycare suggests that it is a separate solution from primary school but with its own set of challenges. The passage never mentions vacation for daycare workers.
