How Is Answer Choice A Incorrect?
I understand that the conclusion is that since there is no evidence of life outside of Earth, there must be no life elsewhere. So a direct attack to the reasoning is that there is other life other than life we know of on Earth. How is A wrong?

The biggest issue that it seems you are having is understanding the stimulus. You could attack his reasoning, but it doesn't give him a reason to reconsider his conclusion. Just because someone tells you there IS life on other planets doesn't mean that I would have to reconsider my conclusion that there ISNT. Answer C does exactly that, it gives him a reason to reconsider his conclusion.
