General Argument Structure Question

If I did very poorly on this section, what could I do to improve besides read your explanations? I've read some of your responses for a few problems and I understand why the correct answer is right after doing so but I still think my answers are justified. Thanks!

Hey there, thanks for your post. A key skill tested by Argument Evaluation questions is your ability to truly understand the role played by each and every piece of information presented in a given stimulus. Untimed practice in which you carefully review a stimulus and try to ascertain, for yourself and before looking at the answer choices, which phrases or sentences are premises and which are conclusory, is a foundational step. Then you want to assess, again for yourself before looking at the answer choices, the general "methodology" of the argument - by analogy? Cause & effect reasoning? Process of elimination? Etc. Etc.

The clearer you are - the more work / reflection you complete BEFORE you get mired in the answer choices - the greater your chance of avoiding "sucker" choices or getting confused once you do start to review the options.

This can be time consuming at first, but consistent thoughtful practice can help you improve both your speed and accuracy over time.

Hope this helps! Please let us know if you have any additional questions.
