Hi @vatten, thanks for your post.

Support for answer choice (B) can be found in Lines 8-12 ("the readjustment movement advocated the end of the federal government's involvement in Native American affairs and encouraged the assimilation of Native Americans as individuals into mainstream society"). Further support is found in lines 24-28 ("like other homeowners" and "the government would not attempt to restrict").

There is no textual support for the proposition set out in answer choice (D) - nothing in the passage supports the view that "advocates of readjustment would most likely agree" with the idea that the "federal government should share its responsibility for maintaining Native American territories with tribal leaders."

Hope this helps! Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

Hi can you please explain why the answer is not A?

@Steph,

Great question. Question 5 states, "The passage suggests that
advocates of readjustment would most likely agree with which one of
the following statements regarding the relationship between the
federal government and Native Americans?"

We know from the passage that advocates of readjustment want the
government to get out of the affairs of Native Americans, which is
from lines 8 through 12 in the passage. Lines 8 through 12 say, "the
readjustment movement advocated the end of the federal government's
involvement in Native American affairs and encouraged the assimilation
of Native Americans as individuals into mainstream society."

Answer A is incorrect because it is suggesting that the advocates of
readjustment would want the federal government to become more involved
with Native American affairs by working with them to improve life on
reservations. This is the opposite of what the advocates want (based
on what lines 8 through 12 say), so we can eliminate this answer.

Does this make sense? Let us know if you have any more questions!
