Answer choice (E) is textually supported - the passage does discuss how Thoreau's "Civil Disobedience" was known to King (lines 17-20) and states that King himself acknowledged that Thoreau's essay was "his first intellectual contact with the theory of passive resistance" (lines 6-9).

Answer choice (B) is not textually supported - indeed, the passage says the opposite (noting that Thoreau's essay "was the only example of transcendentalist writing with which King was familiar" - lines 17-20).
