B vs C

Hi, Could you please explain what led you to C as the correct answer versus B. I believe it has to do with lines 40-43 and thus the correct answer choice must undermine the explanation proposed in the third paragraph by either attacking the long lifespan or flight requirements. Does B not accomplish this because the wording of "vary" in choice B is too vague? Thanks!

@sb, the word "vary" in (B) is meant in the sense that the brain grows and shrinks similarly to the canary's (as opposed to the sizes vary from bird to bird). (B) would actually provide supportive evidence for the author's theory by showing several bird species with similar biological requirements experiencing the same phenomenon.

(C) on the other hand shows birds that are the same size as canaries and have heavier brains yet can fly. This suggests that a canary's brain could be much bigger than it is without affecting the bird's ability to fly. This further suggests that there is likely a different explanation as to why the canary's brain shrinks and grows again.
