define "restrictive" 😁

Unless, I'm mistaken the lesson states that the defining characteristic of Guru games is its restrictive nature: one being able to map out every possibility based upon the rules given prior to answering the questions. Here, I was only able to determine two incomplete game boards based on the first rule, which is exactly what the setup video shows. One must draw out the game per question to make a determination, unlike the previous games. How is this not a general group sequencing game? In other words, what makes this a guru game?

I have the same concern as Jonathan

@Jonathan and @Tony,

Happy to help. This particular game is a Guru game, and all possible
game boards can be created before going to the questions.

We know we have 3 folk groups and 3 rock groups. We know there are 2
stages, north and south, and each stage has 3 two-hour performances (N
is 6, 8, and 10, and S is 8, 10, and 12).

N _ _ _ /
S / _ _ _

F
GHL

R
PQT

Rule 1 says P goes at 6 or 12 (P 6 or 12)

Rule 2 says G goes before H (G - H)

Rule 3 says that if a rock group is at 10, then no folk group performs
at 10. We already know P doesn't perform at 10, so this means that if
Q is at 10, then T is at 10, and if T performs at 10, then Q performs
at 10. This means that Q and T are both in 10, or neither Q nor T is
in 10.

Rule 4 says that L and T aren't on the same stages (L and T not on the
same level)

Rule 5 says that Q goes right after a folk group (Q immediately after
G, H, or L)

Now, let's figure out all of the possible game boards.

We can put P in 6 in one and P in 12 in another.

N P _ _ /
S / _ _ _

N _ _ _ /
S / _ _ P

Now, we also know that Q and T are either both in 10, or they're neither in 10

N P _ Q /
S / _ T _

N _ _ Q /
S / _ T P

N P _ _ /
S / _ _ _

N _ _ _ /
S / _ _ P

In the scenarios where Q and T aren't in 10, what can we do? Well, in
the second board, we know we can't but G in 10 because G has to go
before H and there's no room for H after 10. This means H and L are in
10

N _ _ H /
S / _ L P

What can we figure out with the other board?

N P _ _ /
S / _ _ _

We know from our rules that Q comes after G, H, and L, so Q can't go
in 8. It also can't go in 10 because if it did, it'd be the same board
as the one above with Q and T in 10 and P in 6. This means Q is in 12.

N P _ _ /
S / _ _ Q

This means that G has to go in 8 for there to be room for H in 10

N P T H /
S / G L Q

With this board, we know that H and L and T and G can switch with each
other, but we just have to make sure that L and T are always on
different stages, so if we switch H with L, we just have to make sure
T and G are switched to make L and T on different stages.

N P _ Q /
S / _ T _

N _ _ Q /
S / _ T P

N P T H /
S / G L Q

N _ _ H /
S / _ L P

Let's fill out the other 3 boards now

N _ _ H /
S / _ L P

We know Q has to follow G, H, or L, so Q has to go in 8. This means G is in 6.

N G T H /
S / Q L P

N _ _ Q /
S / _ T P

For this board, we know G is before H, so G has to go in 6 and H in 8.
L will also be in 8 on a different stage from T.

N G L Q /
S / H T P

N P _ Q /
S / _ T _

For this board, G has to go in 8 and H in 12 in order to satisfy that
rule. L will also be in 8.

N P L Q /
S / G T H

N G L Q /
S / H T P

N P T H /
S / G L Q

N G T H /
S / Q L P

With these 4 game boards, we can answer all of the questions for this game.

Hope this helps. Let us know if you have any more questions!

I managed to figure out all the GURU possibilities but it was very time consuming; is there a certain point where you recommend that we stop and proceed to the questions?
