@nincarella (E) would set forth the following scenario:

__ Y P O

This would invoke the first condition, i.e. "If a purple bead is adjacent to a yellow bead, any bead that immediately follows and any bead that immediately precedes that pair MUST BE RED."

But in (E) the fourth bead, i.e. the one that immediately follows YP is O.

So (E) would be eliminated.

Hope that helps! Please let us know if you have any other questions.

How can any of the answers work. D says "Y-G" but the second rule says G must be next to G so how can Y-G-O work?

NM. I misunderstood the rule. I understand now.

I am still confused because for E it also says that any bead that immediately precedes is red so couldn't R Y P O work?

or did I misread the rules and is it that the R precedes or follows the pair in the direction of the R so for Y P, R needs to come after whereas if it were P Y, R would precede.

The rule says that if we have P next to O, the OP/PO block must be both immediately followed by and immediately preceded by R. That is, it would be ROPR, so Y couldn't be second.
