Hey! I'm not 100% sure but I think it's because it doesn't say a red bead MUST come before a YP or PY pair but IF there is a bead after or before then it must be red. It actually says "any bead that immediately follows and any bead that immediately precedes that pair must be red." It isn't saying there must be a red bead before and after, just that if there is then it must be red. That's how I interpreted it anyway! Hope that helps!

@rhoch21@gmail.com,This explanation is spot on. The rule only applies when there is a bead that follows or precedes the YP or PY pair. Keep up the good work.

I made a mistake here because I assumed that since this was forming a bracelet, the clasp joining the two ends together would cause an error in the application of the rules. It would mean that the purple and orange would actually end up being next to each other. Why is making this type of assumption wrong on this game?

Hi @ilovethelsat,Thanks for the question! I guess my question here is: why would you assume that this clasp is forming a bracelet, and to put the two ends together? We shouldn’t assume things about the game unless the argument tells them to us, and we’re never told the ends will be clasped together. In fact, we’re just told that the jeweler is making “a single strand of beads by threading onto a string in a single direction from a clasp.” Nothing about a bracelet is mentioned, and the word “strand” and “single direction” indicates that we only have to worry about things going in one direction, not some kind of loop. Maybe we’re making some kind of earring, in which case it wouldn’t have to loop around. Or something else like that. So don’t make the game harder than it is! We’re only worried about adjacent beads, and nothing tells us that the first and last beads are adjacent.
Hope this helps! Feel free to ask any other questions that you might have.
