@joryjes always start by identifying your two variables.

The two variables here are:

Felony conviction (FC)
Appointed to the board (AB)

We know the rule for "not both" is pick one variable as your sufficient condition and then negate the other variable for your necessary condition.

So let's pick FC as our sufficient condition:

FC ==>

Now we want to negate the other variable (i.e. AB) for our necessary condition:

FC ==> not AB

Contrapositive would be:

AB ==> not FC
