Yes, the answer is C. We are looking for an answer that is “best supported by information in the passage.”

We know from the passage that “it is generally accepted that the magnetic field itself is generated by the motion of free electrons in the outer core, a slowly churning mass of molten metal. . . ” (Lines 16-19). Answer C states that in the reverse.
