Between B & E

I got the answer correct, but I was wondering if someone could explain why E would be the incorrect answer choice here. Thanks.

Hi @SROTD702,

The passage says that when a child’s cognitive capacity has developed, they sometimes are tormented by imaginary creatures. However, that same development in cognitive capacity also allows them to imagine powerful allies that can ward off the imaginary threats. So the cause of the problem (here, a child’s imagination) may also provide the solution. Thus, Answer B is correct.

You said you were having some difficulty choosing between Answer B and D. Answer D says that the most effective way for children to address their fears is to acknowledge them. This answer is not correct as the passage describes a situation that is somewhat different. The passage does not say that a child’s fears should just be acknowledged. Instead, it says that a child’s imagination can also be used to imagine that their toys are allies that can ward off the imagined threats. This strategy is different than just acknowledgement. Instead, this is using the child’s imagination as a solution to their problem. Because the situation described in the passage proposing a different way to address the fears of children, this answer is not the right choice.
