Why is A correct? Why is B incorrect?

@Steph and @Shiyi-Zhang,

Great question. The question asks, "Which one of the following best
describes the organization of the passage?"

In order to answer this question correctly, we need to make sure we
have a solid understanding of the passage as a whole and how each part
of the passage plays into the entire passage.

The first paragraph gives us Pocock's approach. The second paragraph
gives us an example of one of his investigations. The third paragraph
gives us another example of one of Pocock's investigations and then
wraps up by saying that Pocock's method is a good one even if it's not
perfect.

(A) says a description of a thesis is offered, specific cases are
considered, and an evaluation is given. This is a great fit with what
we anticipated the answer to contain, and it's our correct answer.

Both of you had trouble differentiating between (A) and (B), so let's
take a look at (B) to see why it's wrong.

(B) says a thesis is brought forward, the thesis is qualified, and
evidence that calls the qualification into question is stated.

The first two parts of this answer choice are great. However, there is
quite a bit that happens before the thesis is qualified (namely, the
examples being given), and the author never calls into question her
qualification of the thesis. In order for (B) to have been correct,
the author would have had to make the qualification of Pocock's thesis
and then turn around and call into question the qualification she had
just made. Not only would this not make sense for her to do, but it's
also not at all what the author does in the passage.

Does this help you better see the distinction between (A) and (B)? If
you have any more questions, let us know!
