Is answer A right because Eltis mentions in line 35-38 that "notables called for enslavement of unemployed labors"?

@Steph and @Samantha-Alexis,

Happy to help. Let's take a look.

(A) says, "People of all classes in Britain supported the abolition of slavery"

From the passage, we know that Drescher and Eltis are generally at
odds with their views. However, in looking at the beginning of the
third paragraph (line 29), we see that there is an overlap of
agreement between Drescher and Eltis' theories. We're told in the
passage that Eltis answers a question that's left open by Drescher:
why was there popular support for antislavery measures proposed by the
House of Lords (lines 23-27)? To answer this question, Eltis would
have to be in agreement with Drescher that there was popular and elite
support for the abolition of slavery. (A) captures this well. This is
a tough question, but in viewing the end of the second paragraph and
the beginning of the third paragraph, we see how both Drescher and
Eltis agree on this. Thus, (A) is the correct answer choice.

Hope this helps. Let us know if you have any other questions!

Thank you for your explanation. My only confusion is that (A) states "people of all classes in Britain" instead of just "elite support". Sorry I am confused. Can you explain please?

Same, elite isn't all. I chose B

+1 to this. This seems to be in direct conflict with question 231, where the explanation refuted the idea that all classes supported abolition?
