Group Games Questions - - Question 14

Which one of the following lists two pairs of birds that the breeder can exhibit at the same time?

How do you eliminate answer choice A right away.

I am confused in the video explanation it states that A can be eliminated right away because it does not include a pair of Parakeets? However, this is not a constraint of the game, so how can we eliminate it right off the bat?

@philpetrina13,

Happy to help! We can eliminate A right off the bat because even
though the game's rules don't explicitly state that a pair of
parakeets must be in, we know this has to be true based on an
inference we can make from the rules.

The reason there must be at least one pair of parakeets being
displayed is because there are 3 male parakeets (Q, R, and S).

We have a game rule that states that any two birds that are both of
the same sex and of the same kind as each other cannot be caged
together.

Let's see what happens if we try to put all of the parakeets out so
that no parakeets are displayed.

We can put one of Q, R, or S in one of the out cages, and we can put
one of Q, R, and S in the other out cage. However, there are only two
out cages, so where does the last of Q, R, and S go? This is where we
run into problems because Q, R, and S are all the same sex.

Therefore, we know that at least one of Q, R, and S must be on
display, so we also know that one pair of parakeets must be on
display.
