@BradG,

Happy to help.

The question asks, "Which one of the following statements about
schooling in the United States during the mid-1940s can be inferred
from the passage?"

(B) says, "The teachers in white schools had more time to cover
material during a school year than did teachers in black schools."

We know that education is mentioned quite a bit in the second and
third paragraphs of the passage, but the author of the passage only
discusses the mid-1940s in line 30 ("Although the mid-1940s term
length at black schools was approaching that in white schools, the
rapid growth in another important measure of school quality, school
expenditures, may be explained by increases in teachers' salaries").
Here, the term "approaching" denotes that during the mid-1940s, highly
black schools didn't have as much time during the school day as did
white schools, but they were approaching time parody with the white
schools. In looking at (B) it is strongly supported by the text in
lines 30-35. Teachers had more time to cover material in white schools
than they did in black schools. (B) is the correct answer choice.

Does this make sense? Let us know if you have any more questions!

@BradG, apologies for the typo. It's "time parity," not "time parody."
