Why is B incorrect?

@Shiyi-Zhang,

Happy to help. Let's look at (B), (C), and (E).

The question says, "Based on the passage, which one of the following
would be an example of pop art that is most in keeping with the spirit
of Lichtenstein’s work?"

(B) says, "a painting that parodies human figures by depicting them as
stick figures"

The problem is that Lichtenstein's work was not parodying human
figures; rather, it was parodying the pretentious art world and
contemporary society. Additionally, (B) does not show any sort of
impulse geared toward realism. Thus, we can get rid of this choice.

(C) says, "a painting that conveys its creator’s inner turmoil through
the use of bold lines and primary colors"

The problem with (C) is that there isn't any sort of impulse toward
realism, and the parody is reflecting the artist, rather than society.
We can get rid of this choice.

(E) says, "a painting that depicts products as they appear in magazine
advertisements to comment on society’s values"

In looking at the third paragraph, we can see that Lichtenstein was
creating realistic paintings (line 36) to comment on contemporary
life. (E) provides us with an answer that more or less paraphrases
this, as the products are being depicted as they appear in the
magazine to comment on what contemporary life is like (they're being
depicted realistically). Thus, (E) is the correct answer choice.

Does this make sense? Let us know if you have any more questions!

I still feel C is right because doesn't Lichtenstein wants the paintings to be emotional? Am I off track? Thanks

Where does it say that he wants to comment on contemporary life, instead of just depicting it? Line 36 only talks about his urge to depict realism. How do we know that he wants to comment on contemporary life or society's values?

@Nishant-Varma, if you look at lines 40-45, you'll see that it says that Lichtenstein's work exuded a "deliberate naïveté, intended as a response to the excess of sophistication he observed." This implies that he's depicting contemporary life to comment on it, so that's how we get to E as the correct answer choice.
