The statements says ... unless he has his freedom. The answer explanation shows that freedom is the sufficient, but says that it should be the necessary because of the word unless...

Never mind... I now see that it is showing by the contrapositive. Not f - -> not P which equals p - -> f

By your own explanation the correct answer should be D, whereas B is actually the opposite of what you describe to be correct
