Hi @bb427,

The correct answer is A, not B, because of the rules regarding the word 'unless.'

The statement reads: "It would be very hard for a man to live with me unless he's terribly strong."

There are two steps to diagramming a statement which uses the word 'unless.'

Step 1: The word 'unless' introduces a necessary condition. Therefore, the part of the sentence that follows the word 'unless' will be the necessary condition.

So, our necessary condition for this statement is "terribly strong" (TS).

Step 2: Negate the other part of the sentence and make it the sufficient condition.

So, the other part of the sentence is "very hard for a man to live with me" (VH2L). But remember, we have to negate this before including it in our diagram.

The final statement diagram would then read:

Not VH2L - > TS

This means that, in order for it to not be very hard for a man to live with Chanel, they must be terribly strong. Answer choice B represents the contrapositive of this:

VH2L - > not TS

Try to memorize these steps for diagramming a statement which uses the word 'unless,' along with all the other rules regarding sufficient and necessary conditions and it should be smooth sailing from here!

Hope this is helpful! Please let us know if you have any further questions.

CORRECTION:

Answer choice B is not the contrapositive. My mistake.

In order to determine the contrapositive, you must both reverse and negate. This answer choice simply negates.

My apologies!
