Answer Choice D

Hello! I was wondering if Answer D could be eliminated because it talks about "after leaving office" when the stimulus is about becoming president. Many thanks in advance!

@Julie,

This is a weaken question. The author argues that business executives are uncomfortable with compromises and power sharing and for this reason do not run for president. We are looking for an answer choice that would question this reasoning.

Let's consider each of the answer choices:

(A) is irrelevant because we are only interested in the business executives not politicians;

(B) is the correct answer choice. If this is true and military leaders are similarly uncomfortable with compromises and power sharing but do run for presidents, it means there must be an alternative explanation for business executives' unwillingness to run, which weakens the author's argument.

(C) is irrelevant because we are only interested in "power-sharing" skills, it does not matter that military leaders and lawyers may possess different skills

(D) is irrelevant not because it happened after leaving office but because the argument focuses on business executives. We are not saying that the presidential candidates are uncomfortable with running a business -a conclusion this answer choice would weaken - but rather that business executives are uncomfortable running for president.

(E) is irrelevant because it talks about hierarchically structured companies supporting a candidate, while the argument talks about individuals running for president

Let me know if this makes sense.
