Why is the first sentence not diagramed as a compound statement?

When I was diagramming the first sentence, I was able to recognize "nation redistributes wealth" as the necessary but then I thought the following phrase, "unable to alleviate economic injustice and our current system will lead inevitably to intolerable economic inequities." So I diagrammed: AEI & IEI --> NRW Is it not compound because the inability to alleviate economic justice would lead to intolerable economic inequities?

Hi @hannahnaylor5,

I think it works fine whether or not you view it as a compound statement; in this case, it's fine to make it a compound statement. Let me walk through why really quickly:

~redistribute - > ~AEI & IEI

And we know that if A - > B & C, we can break this up into A - > B and A - > C. If the microwave is done, the food is hot and it will ding. That means if the microwave is done, the food is hot. Also, if the microwave is done, then it will ding. Using that principle, we can isolate

~redistribute - > IEI

And then do the rest of the problem. Hope this helps!
