Choice (E)

Hi LSAT Max, I chose (E) because I thought that Alicia's comment about social consequences of industrialization "widely understood in franchot's day" was criticizing the structure of the argument. Is that incorrect to assume because the structure would be how the argument is built and not the specifics within the argument? Thank you in advance for the help!

@Julie-V,

Happy to help. Let's take a look at (C) and (E).

(E) says, "attacks one of Concetta's claims and then criticizes the
structure of her argument"

We know from the stimulus that Alicia is attacking Concetta's factual
claims in addition to her criterion. However, neither of these things
involves the logical structure of her argument, so we can get rid of
(E).

(C) says, "rejects Concetta's criterion and then disputes a specific claim"

(C) captures precisely what Alicia is doing in her disagreement with
Concetta. She first rejects Concetta's criterion that being ahead of
one's time makes for a great writer. Then, she disputes the claim that
Franchot was ahead of her time in the first place, so (C) does a great
job in describing Alicia's disagreement with Concetta. Thus, it's the
correct answer choice.

Does this make sense? Let us know if you have any other questions!

Hi Ravi,

I was split between (c) and (d), but ended up choosing (d) because it seemed more pertinent that Alicia disputed Concetta's conclusion about Franchot being a great writer. While I understand that Alicia rejects Concetta's criterion and gives one of her own, can you please explain why (c) can't be the answer? Thank you.
