(C) vs. (E)

Hi LSAT Max, I didn't think (E) was the correct answer because it talks about the brain and muscles whereas the stimulus talks about "physical organs... as well as improvement in muscle tone". Was I setting myself up for failure for thinking that (E) is incorrect because it doesn't mention the physical organs when it made the connection between the brain and muscle? Also, is (C) incorrect because it doesn't explain the process but instead makes a comparison? Thank you in advance for the help!

@Julie,

Let's briefly look at the stimulus.

Exercise leads to improved performance of physical organs, such as heart and lungs, as well as to improvement in muscle tone. Brain is a physical organ, so your action can improve its performance too by exercising.

(E) is the correct answer choice because it accurately describes the advertising strategy. It draws the similarity between the brain and the muscle suggesting that they are both physical organs and then concludes that if exercise benefits muscles, it also benefits the brain. The fact that (E) does not explicitly mention physical organs alone is not enough to exclude (E) because the stimulus explicitly states that the brain is a physical organ and implies that so are muscles - whether it is true in the real world is irrelevant as long as that is the reasoning used in the stimulus even if is flawed.

(C) is wrong because the advertisement never provides any details regarding how exactly exercise improves the performance of the brain. It merely states a claim that it does.

Does this make sense?

Let me know if you have any other questions.

This does help Irina, thank you! I think my problem with this question was that I didn't see the implicit assumption that the muscles are physical organs.

I was also mixed up on either C or E. What caught me off guard is that term "respect" Which the answer includes "It implies that brains and muscle are similar in one respect because they are similar in another respect." Is LSAT trying to mix it all up for you or where did respect even come from?

Hi @Tyler808, you can think of the word "respect" here as being used synonymously with aspect or characteristic.
