What is the correct answer?

I created the following chains, but I must be off somewhere...and I don't see any explanation in the message boards with the correct answer, along with an explanation. Can you please advise? :) UAPC -> CS (not)CS -> (not)UAPC AAT -> UAPC (not)UAPC -> (not)AAT AAT -> UAPC -> CS (not)CS -> (not)UAPC -> (not)AAT

@Shannon,

you correctly diagrammed all the premises.
The flaw in this argument is a mistaken reversal, notice that the conclusion- "It follows that only those who appreciate these advances are computer scientists" is diagrammed as:

CS -> AA
~AA -> CS

as opposed to the properly inferred conclusion:

AA -> CS as you outlined in your question.

The flawed conclusion argues that if one is a computer scientist, he/she must appreciate the advances in technology and ignores the fact that only the opposite is true and in fact, some computer scientists may not appreciate the advances in technology, expressed in the correct answer choice (B).

Does this make sense? Let me know if you have any other questions.

Shouldn't the necessary be CS as the video stated that "only" terms introduces the necessary. So shouldn't it be AA => CS?

Hi @Joyce,

Thanks for the question! Yes, you’re right that only terms introduce the necessary. But remember that necessary terms go on the right side, it’s sufficient —> necessary. So since “only” goes in front of “appreciate these advances,” the correct diagram is

CS —> AA

as Irina said.

Hope this helps! Feel free to ask any other questions that you might have.
