More Solitary Passages Questions - - Question 2

It can be inferred from the passage that the author shares which one of the following opinions with the opponents of ...

(D)

Hi LSAT Max, I think I originally chose (D) because of the information in the third paragraph. I was wondering if someone could help me understand answer choice (A). Is the sentence "but these negative views assume... that we are not committed enough to the artistic enterprise to preserve the live performance" the support needed for (A)? I only noticed after reviewing my answers that what I thought to be support for (D) was in the third paragraph, whereas the author's opinion on the opponents can be found in the second paragraph. Is the second paragraph where we're supposed to focus for this question? Thank you in advance for the help!

@Julie-V,

Happy to help. Let's look at (A) and (D).

(D) says, "Technological innovations of the past have been very useful
to artists."

The concept of something being useful to artists is distinct from
something being influential on art, which is how the passage's author
talks about technological innovations. Additionally, the second
proponent would not agree with (D).

(A) says, "The live performance is an important aspect of the artistic
enterprise."

The author describes the second proponent's objections to
technological innovation in the second paragraph. One objection is
that technological innovation could eventually eliminate live
performances. The passage's author then undermines these objections by
pointing out the assumption that underlies them, which is that people
do not care enough about live performances to preserve them. However,
it's very apparent that the passage's author thinks that live
performance is important enough for people to preserve it, which
contradicts the second proponent's suggestion. Thus, (A) is the
correct answer choice.

Can you explain why C is wrong?

Victoria July 27, 2020

Hi @gmaramara,

Answer choice (C) is incorrect because the author disagrees with the opponents' claims that artistic efforts which use recent technological innovations preempt human creativity.

The author claims that "technology has traditionally assisted our capacity for creative expression and can refine our notions of any given art form: (lines 36 to 38), suggesting that they believe that recent technological innovations will have the same effect.
