Question regarding E

I completely understand how you guys were able to extract the logic. However, I am curious to know why wasn't the phrase None of the So-called Western democracies is really democratic diagrammed? Is there anyway to distinguish whether a sentence needs to be diagramed or not? I saw in another post that the word Can is an indicator that the sentences doesn't need to be diagramed. In simpler terms, how can I circumvent the fluff test makers throw into the sentences in the logical reasoning section?

@Troy,

Great question. That phrase was not diagrammed because it's the
conclusion of (E).

Here's how I would diagram (E):

Democratic - >opinion of each citizen has a meaningful impact

opinion of the citizens does not have a meaningful impact (failure of
the necessary condition)

Conclusion: none of the Western democracies is democratic (failure of
the sufficient condition)

This is a valid argument.

Does this make sense? Let us know if you have any other questions!

@Troy, regarding how you can circumvent the fluff that the test makers throw into the sentence, keep you eyes on the lookout for words like "may," "can," "could," etc. Those all tell you that the sentence in question does not get diagrammed. The only sentences that diagrammed are ones with wording that introduces sufficient and necessary conditions. I highly recommend reviewing our lessons on conditional logic indicators. Make sure you memorize all of these and what type of condition (sufficient or necessary) they're introducing, and this will help you immensely in being able to diagram questions intuitively.

Hope this helps. Let us know if you have any other questions!
