More Solitary Passages Questions - - Question 1

Which one of the following best expresses the main ideas of the passage?

(A) vs. (D)

Hi LSAT Max, I was stuck between the two choices but ended up going with the latter because I didn't think "experimenting" was an accurate term to use based on the information given. I didn't think the word "redesign" was synonymous with "experimenting", which I think was my main confusion for this question. If someone could explain why (A) is correct and (D) is incorrect I would greatly appreciate it!

@Julie,

The passage tells us that all crude oil needs to be processed but because offshore processing (on a platform) is more dangerous than on shore, researchers are attempting to diminish the need for human labor on platforms or even eliminate platforms altogether (lines 5-12). That's the experimenting that the correct answer choice (A) refers to. (D) is incorrect because redesigning the pump would not preempt the need for processing facilities on shore, just the opposite. Since the pumps are meant to allow crude oil to be transported onshore and eliminate the need for offshore processing, the processing in this scenario must happen onshore.

Does this make sense?

Let me know if you have any further questions.

That makes much more sense now, thank you so much for the explanation!
