I know I'm not LSAT max but I hope my thought process is helpful for this question because it was difficult for me as well! here is how i viewed the answer choices

A: this answer choice is about the aim of science but nowhere in the passage do they mention "aim"- eliminate

B: i narrowed it down to B and E but B seemed too vague and doesn't fully address what we're looking for. i left this one open just in case until I got to E

C: completely irrelevant and untrue- the advances have actually made it easier to work out the theory which we can now accept

D: too vague and irrelevant

E: correct! why? in the passage it says "his ideas were rejected vehemently because he postulated no identifiable force strong enough to make the continents move" - this force is the WHY the continents ended up moving. E says we accept the theory even though we don't know WHY. This is exactly what's happening- the force itself hasnt been detected aka we don't know why-- but the movement has been detected
