Strategy for Question Type

Hi LSAT Max, Do you have any tips/advice on how to tackle questions like this when they ask you about something specific from the passage without a line reference? When I got to this question, I wasn't sure where in the passage I would be able to find it and am afraid of taking too much time to try and look for it. Thanks!

Hi @Julie-V,

Thanks for the question! It's definitely impossible to know where everything is immediately at all times. I'd try out a couple of strategies and see what works best for you. Some people like to jot down summaries of paragraphs, which should help you locate roughly where you expect something to be. In this question, for example, a lot of the description of a polyarchy is in the second paragraph, and this is where the lines helping you get to the correct answer happened to be. If you had written down "description of polyarchy," it might have helped you skip directly to that paragraph. You should definitely be keeping at least a mental map of a general roadmap of the passage. For a couple of people, it helps to very briefly skim the questions right before or after the reading and look for questions like this that ask about specific references, so you have an idea of what to look for as you read through the passage. Different strokes for different folks, as they say. Hope this helps, though, and feel free to ask any other questions you might have.
