Are both parts important?

Hi! In a question like this, where there are two different people presenting a claim, are both parts important in understanding this question? It seems like I only used the passage that the statement came from. Thanks in advance!

@pajberman,

Great question. You're right—for this particular question, you only
need Joseph's part to correctly answer the question. However, this is
also from an older practice test (December 1999/PT 30). When these
types of questions appear on the newer tests, the questions tend to
focus on the relationship between what the people are talking/arguing
about, so it's always important to read both things people are saying.

Does this make sense? Let us know if you have any other questions!
