Why not E
I picked C because it seemed like a stronger response to casting doubt but I feel E could be a trap answer I'd pick in a rush. What is the reasoning behind WHY E is incorrect?

(E) says, "The first printed books published after the invention of the printing press would have been useless to illiterate people, since the books had virtually no illustrations."
The problem with (E) is that it does not tell us whether or not there was an increase in the number of illiterate people. Thus, we can get rid of it, as it doesn't cast doubt on the argument.
