The main reason is that answer choice B is incorrect is that the language is a bit too extreme.

"The production of any great work requires contributions from those who are unimaginative but technically skilled."

"Any great work" is a group that is too broad for us to make conclusions about. The passage was specifically about jazz recordings, and it may not apply to any work of art.

"Requires contributions" is also too strong, even within the scope of the passage. These pianists "often add masterful touches to some of the greatest jazz recordings." Pay attention to "often" and "some." The passage doesn't say that all great jazz recordings required this type of pianist.

Keep an eye out for exaggerated language like "any" or "requires." Identifying this kind of language will be very important on the test.
