However in Argument Structure

I have notice the word "however" in a few of the argument structure" questions. How do the test makers define this word or how do the test takers mean its use?

Hi @LSATChris,

However is used to introduce a statement that contrasts with or seems to contradict something that has been said previously. For example:

She was smart. However, she didn't get good grades.

Dolphins are mammals. However, they don't have bodies covered in hair or fur.

Sam has a crush on Sally. However, Sally is dating Chad.

Words like: Nevertheless, still, yet, although, and notwithstanding are all used similarly.

"However" can be used in premises that provide support, intermediate conclusions or final conclusions. It's role depends on context.

Hope this helps!
