Help

I'm confused as to why C) is correct. I understand we are looking for an answer that says Bach creates music to express his feelings because that directly contradicts the passage. But, since answer choice C) says that "in compositions other than chorale preludes" shouldn't this be dismissed as an answer choice? Because we only know information about chorale preludes from the passage and can't state for sure anything about non-chorale preludes.

@kswope,

There is a lot of filler text in the passage, the relevant part is at the very end of the argument. Master artists never create in order to express their own feelings. Bach is a master artist. We can therefore infer that Bach never created in order to express his own feelings.

Note that this statement refers to anything master artists create not just chorale preludes, any art or music created by a master artist is necessarily for a purpose other than expressing the master artist's feelings. Based on these premises, we can conclude that it CANNOT be true that Bach created any musical piece in order to express his own feelings.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Ok, I see. Sometimes answer choices are half correct, and I thought this was one of them.
Thank you!
