B and D

Can someone please explain the difference between a subsidiary conclusion and a principal claim? I selected D because I thought B did not completely support the conclusion. It is aligned with the conclusion and that is why I selected D instead.

Hi Mprezzy, thanks for the question!

A subsidiary conclusion is both a premise and conclusion. It is both supported by a premise (making it a conclusion), and supports a conclusion (making it a premise).

A principle claim is akin to a conclusion.

D is wrong because the statement under question was not the conclusion of his argument, it was a sub-conclusion. Additionally, he did not try to refute this statement; in fact, he was supporting it.

Hope this helps!
