Thanks for the question! The question asks us for an answer choice with which practitioners of the new scholarship discussed in the last paragraph would be most likely to agree about Deter’s argument. Let’s see what those practitioners think. We’re told that the new scholarship tells us that the decline in status is simplistic and unsophisticated, and that Dexter was too quick to assume that a relatively simple social system automatically brought higher standing to colonial women (lines 43-48). Thus, the practitioners of this new scholarship would be like to agree with (B), that Dexter assumes that a less complex social system necessarily confers higher status on women, when this isn’t necessarily true.
