Can someone please explain why B??

I chose A, but I think I understand that the choice is incorrect because the passage never says that the crude would function better if there were no gas in the crude. However, can you please direct me to lines in the passage that support B? Thanks!

Hi @b_theo,

Good question. Here’s a breakdown for A and B.

A) If the positive displacement pump that’s currently in use were to be redesigned, it would work by being immune to sudden shifts from liquid to gas. It could therefore still work even with gas in there (line 30 to 33).

B) In line 16, the sentence that starts with “currently” that goes on to say “does not work consistently because of the crude’s content” is a good place to look first. What’s the problem with the crude’s content? The next three sentences elaborate on this. The last sentence in line 25 that starts with “the surge” tells us that the sudden changes between the elemental states of the crude are what cause the problems that are preventing the crude from being able to be transported to shore.

Hope this helps!
