C?

If the test used to determine the age of the pottery was newer, could it not have been more accurate, leading to a discrepancy between suspected ages? That would also weaken the conclusion.

@Alexander-Blankers Happy to help!

We cannot conclude that tests devised more recently are more accurate simply because they're newer. This is an unsupported assumption, so it does not weaken the conclusion of the passage. It could be the case that the new and old tests are equally accurate, or perhaps the older test has been used more and is better developed than the new test. Option (A), however, weakens the conclusion by offering an alternative explanation for the evidence that the conclusion is based on without necessitating any assumptions.

Does this make sense? Please let us know if you have additional questions.
