Hello. Can you please help me understand why D is the correct answer? I think I misinterpreted "a dramatic rise in newly reported cases of melanoma" to mean there was an increase in people who got melanoma despite decreases of the number of people who sunbathed for extended periods of time.

I think that your reflection is correct. You would expect fewer cases of melanoma if people are sunbathing less and less.
