Why A

Could someone please explain why A is the correct answer. I had a hard time knowing what answer choice seemed right here.

Hi @hannahnaylor5,

This question is tricky as a lot of the language seems consistent between the passage and different answer choices. The first place to start here is to read through the passage to get a general idea of its tone and then to turn to the question and answer choices. The question tells us to focus on line 18 so start by reviewing the paragraph that line is found in.

Answer Choices:
(A) is correct. The "objections" at line 18 have to do with the patronizing tone of decisions and their rejection of Native American values. This answer choice reflects those objections. A Supreme Court decision which demonstrated respect for Native Americans and their principles would help answer these objections.

(B) is incorrect. This objections at line 18 have to do with Native American culture and values, not state and federal rights. This is discussed later in the passage.

(C) is incorrect. This answer choice refers to the general tone of the passage, but does not directly reflect what is discussed at line 18.

(D) is incorrect. This is discussed closer to lines 30-40. Thus, this does not reflect the objections at line 18.

(E) is incorrect. This statement is generalized and does not refer to the values and patronizing tone discussed at line 18.
