Set up for Game #2

Im very confused as to why S and N language used in the conditions example, (unless) is not put forth as we were taught in the lesson with certain key words? The explanation set up the conditions but nothing was mentioned about that

@jadams10,

The word "unless" is diagrammed the same way in an S->N statement in a LR section as it is here in a game section. We know that the variable following the word "unless" is always the Necessary condition, and the other part of the sentence is always negated and made into the Sufficient condition.

Therefore, the rule "she cannot select the H unless she selects the K" is written as:
H -> K
not K -> not H
Notice how "selects the K" is made into the Necessary condition, while "cannot select the H" is negated to "selects the H" and made into the Sufficient condition.

Similarly, the rule that "she cannot select the J unless she selects a W" is written as:
J -> W
not W -> not J

Does that help? Please let us know if you have any other questions!

Hi so basically from this explanation I got that if she selects H->K but if she selects K then she does not have to select H? and this is because of the rule "unless".

The only time it would be H<->K would be if it was "H must be in the same group as K". So its the difference of wording like Must & Unless?

Thanks in advance.
