B vs. D
I ultimately chose B however, I was torn with D due to not being able to distinguish the difference between providing evidence and demonstrating something. Could you explain why D doesn't work?

The problem with D is not the difference between "providing evidence" and "demonstrating." Rather, the problem is the claim that "all" Shakespeare fans have been members of the educated elite. That is stronger than the point the author is trying to make. Let's consider the argument that the author is skeptical about.
Claim: Shakespeare's plays have always been known and loved by comparatively uneducated people.
Premise: Early eighteenth century editions of the plays had fine paper and good bindings.
Conclusion: These plays were beyond the reach of people of ordinary means.
Does this mean that uneducated people never enjoyed Shakespeare? No. The author presents just one time period in which this may have been the case. In other words, uneducated people have not always had access to the plays. This is best expressed by answer choice B.
