1976 Mathematicians/Some mathematicians at that time...

I am wondering why in this section of the passage, when it says: In 1976, however that was not the case. Some mathematicians at that time.... Why the second qualifier statement is considered: some mathematicians at that time, is not mathematicians of 1976? I understand why not MT but can't figure out why some at that time means: Mathematicians of today...

Let's take a look.

Naz wrote "some mathematicians at that time" as /MT because she wanted
to keep the variables constant. You're right—the mathematicians
referred to in that statement are some mathematicians in 1976.

We know that a mathematician in 1976 IS NOT a present-day
mathematicians, so that's why we can write that variable as /MT. You
could have also written it as M1976 or something like that, but it's
easier if we keep the variables consistent as Naz did.
