Main Point: Use of direct restatements in main point/logically reasoning

I got the answer correct because it felt naturally like the best answer, however, it was not a direct restatement because of the use "should". Our lecture video states that the main point: 1. It must be true. 2. Must be the main point and it was directly restated in the main point lectures, yet it is inconsistent here. I just wanted to clarify more about the direct restatement in the logical reasoning questions.

Hi @nicolebet,

The main point is often stated as a paraphrase. It doesn't need to be a word-for-word restatement of a given line in the text. The main point can be an abstract idea that you pull from the information given in the text, rather than a direct quotation from the passage.

Think of it this way. Let's imagine a scenario where there is a very clear, direct thesis to a piece of text. Even if that thesis portion suffices to address the main point word-for-word as it's written, does that mean you couldn't rephrase it and still retain the idea of the main point? The main point can still be effectively communicated using different language or word choice, so the exact restatement of some given language from the passage isn't necessarily crucial to it.

Does this help answer your question? Feel free to reply with more details about where in the lecture video you're sensing a discrepancy, and one of us will try to get back to you with more clarification straight away!

Hello I agree with the op. The videos don’t state this is the case they say it will be a direct reinstatement. The video lesson should use questions that are mor like the ones in the question exercises.

"The government should Should Spend More Thant it has been spending..."But the passage if i understand correctly said it has been ignored. Doing better than you have doesn't mean you've ignored your duties, no?

Hi, the passage does indeed wash it has ignored this aspect, and then gives us reasons why the fact it has been ignored is a bad thing. This supports the idea that the government should stop ignoring it, and thus spend more.
