need clarification

initially I determined my first go around the answer is B because it stated that the horses can be maintained with proper diet then after reviewing I realized I wasnt all that sure why it was more B and not E.. what role does "no prohibition" vs "no absolute ban" play here?

Hi @gaharibiannick,

B is a pretty good summary of the veterinarian’s point, which we find in the last sentence of the stimulus. The vet gives us reasons why horses with the defect should still be allowed to breed. Therefore, by saying there shouldn’t be an absolute ban on breeding them, we’re getting at the vet’s main point.

Answer choice E is a bit too broad and strong. It’s saying that there shouldn’t be a restriction on breeding horses that have ANY disease that can be controlled by diet and and exercise. The problem is that there could be a lot of diseases that fall into that category! And, our stimulus is only referring to one specific disease that we can apply this advice to. Additionally, our stimulus mentioned the disease in question can be controlled by diet and MEDICATION, not diet and exercise.

In regards to your final question, “no prohibition” and “no absolute ban” aren’t terribly different. I suppose no ABSOLUTE ban (leaving room potentially for partial bans in certain circumstances) is a bit weaker (which is good for our right answer I suppose as well since the vet’s main point in the last sentence does specify “in most cases” when introducing evidence). However, the main reason E is wrong is actually for the aforementioned reasons, and not because of the choice of wording here that differentiates the types of restrictions. That’s more arbitrary than not!

Hope this helps! Feel free to follow up if you have anymore questions.
