Question 23

Hi, Could you please explain your thought process in answering question 23? I was not positive on what this question was asking me to do or how to pick the correct answer. I picked A because I thought it was the only answer supported by the information in the text. Thanks for the help!

Hello @LaurenL,

If you are familiar with the Logical Reasoning section, this question is basically a "strengthen" question. We approach it the same way. First we identify Kolchin's conclusion, then we choose information that will support it. It does not have to be something that is supported by the text. For this question type, we are able to bring in new information, so long as it supports the conclusion.

So, what is Kolchin's principal conclusion? I would say something like this: Because there were more large groups of serfs working together, there were more large, organized rebellions in Russia than in the USA.

A is incorrect, because it suggests that the Russian serf rebellions were mostly small. This is not consistent with the relationship of demographics to rebellion that Kolchin was trying to establish.

C is the correct answer, because it reinforces that relationship. Large plantations = organized rebellions, in both countries. It just happens that there were fewer large groups of slaves in the United States than there were in Russia.

A. says that US is a colony, which is wrong historically. get your facts straight! How can an answer that is 100% historically can be the correct answer? Are you trying to make stupid people?
